Affymetrix - Instrument System Installation Preparation




		Thank you for choosing Affymetrix. We look forward to working with you and are preparing the shipment of your Affymetrix instrument system. The following information has been provided to you so you can prepare your facility to ensure efficient installation and training.

Receiving and Installing your Affymetrix Instrument System

The Affymetrix instrument system will be shipped to your facility by ground. Please instruct your receiving department to document any damage to the shipping containers with the shipper at the time of delivery acceptance. Please do not unpack the instruments or computer workstation.

Unpacking should only be performed by an authorized Affymetrix representative. Unpacking by any person not authorized by Affymetrix constitutes responsibility for the equipment and any damage that may have occurred during shipment or unpacking.

An Affymetrix Instrument Service Engineer will contact you to schedule the instrument installation. The installation takes a minimum of four hours to complete.

System Space Requirements

Please have space available for the system. The system includes four bench-top instruments (the scanner, fluidics station, hybridization oven, and computer workstation). The dimensions and weights of the components are as follows:

System Electrical Requirements

All four instruments run on 120Vac (+/- 10%) in North America and on 220Vac (+/- 10%) in Europe and Japan.

Computer Configuration and Data Storage

Designed with pre-installed specialized controller boards to control the scanner and fluidics station, this Windows 2000 based unit ( DELL Computer) comes minimally configured with a Pentium 4 processor, a 20" Flat Screen LCD monitor, a network interface card and a CD R/W drive.

New User Training

A Field Application Specialist will contact you to schedule the initial training session and provide you with a list of reagents and materials to have ready for training. During this training, you will perform hybridizations of expression arrays followed by basic analysis of the results.

Your Affymetrix Field Application Specialist will provide a tested sample for the hybridizations, two Test3 Arrays and two eukaryotic expression arrays.

In addition, we recommend that you review the GeneChip® Expression Analysis Technical Manual, which lists all of the necessary reagents for preparing and hybridizing samples and order all necessary reagents from other vendors, as soon as possible.

Goals for this training include:

• Proficiency in using the GeneChip expression assay

• Sample preparation consulting

• Sample processing details

• Instrument operation

• Probe array scanning

• Software control

• Basic data analysis

• Troubleshooting all aspects of the GeneChip expression assay

• Ability to conduct and analyze gene expression experiments independently
