Affymetrix purchases a broad range of products and services from suppliers that span the globe. Suppliers who do business with Affymetrix are expected to demonstrate their commitment to fair employment practices and diversity. These commitments should be measured through written plans, policies, or programs established within their own business operations.

Program summary

Affymetrix prides itself in having a diversified environment, and we strive to work with a diverse group of suppliers. Our business is extremely specialized-Affymetrix is the forefront manufacturer and supplier of very complex technology, including GeneChip® microrrays, reagents, software and instrumentation systems. All of our suppliers need to pass a rigid quality assurance process to be added to our Approved Supplier List (ASL). Our key suppliers also need to be ISO and/or QSR compliant.

Principal types of supplies and services subcontracted

Affymetrix has a broad spectrum of buying needs with requirements that can vary greatly depending on location, operation, and/or business. Examples include equipment, facilities, marketing, office supplies, printing, consulting/professional services, staffing, chemicals, and telecommunications.

Although it is our goal to meet minimum government requirements, if any, for supplier diversity, because of the very complex and specific nature of the products that Affymetrix produces, there may not be any small/SDVOSB/MOBE/VOSB/Hubz/SDB/WO businesses that are qualified to supply such specific products to Affymetrix.

Diverse supplier qualifications

Affymetrix seeks the best quality, value, and service, at the best cost, from all of our suppliers. It is our desire to select the supplier who delivers the best overall value consisting of competitive pricing, technological foresight, information management, and continuous and proactive support of products and services.

We are committed to actively seeking goods and services from small businesses as well as those owned by minorities, women, physically challenged persons. We strive to enhance our supplier base to reflect the markets we service.

Affymetrix defines diverse businesses as small businesses that are: minority-owned small business, physically challenged business, veteran-owned small business, service-disabled veteran-owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, and women-owned small business meeting the criteria in the Diversity Definitions (pdf, 112 KB).

Program registration

Diverse companies that meet the criteria outlined above have an opportunity to apply to deliver goods and services to Affymetrix and our customers. To be considered for a contracting opportunity through our Supplier Diversity Program, you will need to complete these three steps:

1. Complete the attached Affymetrix New Supplier Profile Form (pdf, 148 KB).
2. Provide proof of your company's diversity status by submitting a copy of your current certificate from one or more qualified agencies listed in the "Diversity Definitions" section above.
3. Mail your completed Supplier Profile Form and copy of diverse status validation to:

Affymetrix cannot guarantee that all diverse suppliers who submit applications will become suppliers. However, we are committed to working with qualified suppliers who fully meet the criteria set in our Supplier Diversity Program.

Our commitment to supplier diversity

Affymetrix is committed to developing and promoting mutually beneficial business relationships with a highly diverse base of customers. In accordance with that commitment, Affymetrix will participate in any studies or surveys that may be required, submit periodic reports to the government, and complete Standard Form (SF) 294 and 295, as required. Affymetrix will keep the following records in order to accurately report on our supplier diversity: supplier profile (that includes ownership structure of supplier) and supplier address book.

Affymetrix will ensure that all qualified small business, veteran-owned small business, service-disabled veteran-owned small business, HUBzone small business, small disadvantaged business, minority-owned business, and women-owned business suppliers have an equal opportunity to compete for various projects and needed supplies. For non-production suppliers in certain categories, a competitive bidding process will be followed, wherein qualified businesses will be requested to submit a quote for the materials or services needed. On the production side, any supplier who can manufacture the required product will go through our qualification process, a process that evaluates their financial stability, technical competence, and manufacturing scalability of R&D through manufacturing.
