If no sample RNA binds to the probes positioned in any given square, we will know the corresponding DNA was not present in the food sample we are testing. When we analyze the array with the laser light, we will see that probes do not have any fluorescence, meaning that they have not bound any representative goose RNA. It's much like leaving the bar alone — all your friends can tell that you struck out.
