Just as you can identify the "Star Spangled Banner" without hearing the entire song, the FoodExpert-ID Array can measure whether a gene is present without having the complete gene fixed to the glass surface only the short representative section is required.
In the example above, we built one probe to detect one short section of goose-specific DNA. However, the FoodExpert-ID Array provides highly accurate results by using multiple probes to detect different sections of the same gene. While it may be possible to identify the "Star Spangled Banner" listening to a single verse such as, "Oh, say can you see", hearing additional phrases like "by the dawn's early light", "the ramparts we watched" and "the rocket's red glare" provide an added level of certainty that the song actually is the national anthem and not something like "Say Can You See" by the progressive musician Beck clearly a different type of anthem. Thus, whether identifying animal DNA sequence or a musical song, multiple measurements consistently provide for a much higher degree of confidence in the final conclusion.
