If goose was present in the original foie gras, the sample being washed over the array will contain goose RNA (purple UAGUAC). If the sequence of six bases in the RNA prepared from the food, matches that of our goose DNA probe (green ATCATG), then there will be a perfect complement in the sample and the strands of goose RNA in the sample will pair with their partner probes on the array.
