The Affymetrix GeneChip® Bovine Mapping 10K SNP Kit contains approximately 10,000 SNPs that are multiplexed in a single assay. These SNPs allow researchers to perform linkage mapping studies on bovine breeds with no bias toward either beef or dairy.

The SNPs on the panel were validated across 15 Bos taurus and Bos indicus breeds and include several quantitative trait loci (QTLs) of interest to beef and dairy cattle breeders. The panel also includes SNPs from two African Sanga breeds.

The majority of the SNPs were discovered as part of the Bovine Sequencing Project and were validated at Affymetrix. In both the 10K and 25K SNP kits, genotype data is generated in a single multiplexed assay using proven molecular inversion probe (MIP) technology in combination with Affymetrix universal tag arrays, and scanned on an Affymetrix GeneChip® Scanner 3000 TG System.
